Webcam Test
See the live picture and the frame size the browser delivers. Read the track's reported frame rate, measure fps over 5 seconds, check lighting, and take a snapshot. Nothing is uploaded.
Press "Test my camera" to start
Your browser will ask for permission. Nothing is uploaded.
Measured FPS
Counts frames delivered over 5 seconds. This is separate from the reported frame rate.
Max resolution test
Asks for 3840×2160, 1920×1080 and 1280×720, and shows the frame that arrives.
Lighting check
Start the camera to see a live brightness meter and histogram.
Preview, lighting samples, snapshots and clips stay on your device and are never uploaded. Stop camera, or leaving the page, stops every media track, including when permission arrives as the page closes. The large size is the delivered frame, not the sensor. Reported fps is the track setting. The fps test counts frames.
Does your 1080p webcam really do 1080p?
How to read the results
The page asks for 1920×1080 and shows the frame the browser delivers. That size is videoWidth by videoHeight when a frame is available. It is not the sensor native resolution. The names 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p and 480p appear only when those exact dimensions arrive. The fps test counts delivered frames for 5 seconds. The other frame-rate number is the track setting, not a second measurement. A box that says 1080p can still deliver a smaller frame, so compare the size on screen with the label.
Why the frame rate drops in low light
Webcams often lengthen auto exposure in a dim room, and a frame cannot be exposed for longer than the gap between frames. At 30 fps that gap is about 33 ms, so the camera may deliver 15 fps or fewer. This page does not measure exposure time. If measured fps is well below the reported setting, add light and run the test again. If the counted rate comes back up, the room was holding it down.
Camera not working? Check these
A permission block is not a broken camera. If the message says access is blocked, allow the camera for this site and press Try again. Otherwise look for a physical privacy shutter or a camera key (often F8 or F10) on laptops. On Windows open Settings, Privacy & security, Camera and allow desktop apps and your browser. On macOS open System Settings, Privacy & Security, Camera. If the camera is "in use", quit Zoom, Teams, OBS or another tab that holds it. Still nothing? Reconnect it to another USB port, then update or reinstall the driver in Device Manager.
Lighting tips
Put the main light in front of you, not behind. A window behind your head makes the camera expose for the sky and leaves your face dark. Aim for the green zone on the lighting meter, with the histogram spread in the middle and no big spike at either end. A cheap desk lamp bounced off a wall does more for image quality than most webcam upgrades.

Frequently asked questions
What does the resolution number measure?
It is the frame the browser is delivering. When the video element has a frame, the page uses videoWidth and videoHeight. Otherwise it uses the track width and height from getSettings(). It is not the sensor native resolution. The page says 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p or 480p only when the frame is exactly one of those sizes, including the same sizes turned sideways. If the width or height is missing, you see a dash, not 0.
Which number is the measured frame rate?
The tile labeled Reported fps is getSettings().frameRate, the track reported setting. It is not a measurement, and a missing setting shows a dash. Measured fps comes from the 5 second test. That test counts frames with requestVideoFrameCallback, or painted frames when the browser has no video-frame callback. Only that result is called measured.
What if the browser blocks the camera?
A NotAllowedError or SecurityError means permission was denied. The page says camera access is blocked and explains how to allow it. That is not a broken camera. Use the address-bar camera setting, or the OS privacy setting, then press Try again. A missing camera and a camera another app is holding get different messages.
Does the video get uploaded?
No. The preview, the lighting sample, snapshots and the 5 second clip stay in this tab. Download writes a file on your computer. Nothing is sent to a server.
How do I turn the camera off?
Press Stop camera. That stops every media track and the recorder. Leaving the page does the same. If you leave while the permission prompt is still open and the browser grants access afterward, those tracks are stopped too. The camera indicator should go off unless another app still has the camera.
Why is measured fps lower than the reported setting?
The reported setting is not a count of frames that arrived. Dim scenes often make a webcam lengthen exposure and deliver fewer frames. This page does not measure exposure. Add light in front of you, keep this tab visible, and run the test again. If the counted rate rises, light was the limit. The lighting panel is a rough brightness read of the preview, not a calibrated light meter.
The resolution test stayed below 1080p. Is the webcam broken?
Not from that result alone. The test asks for 3840×2160, then 1920×1080, then 1280×720, and prints the frame that arrives. A smaller frame means the browser did not deliver the larger request. It does not prove the sensor size. Permission denial is a separate message and does not mean the camera is broken.
