Spacebar Counter

Count every press of the space bar with no timer. See your presses per second, peak speed and progress to a goal. Your count saves itself, so a reload will not wipe it.

The counter only counts while this page is focused. Press Space to add one, Backspace to undo one.

About the spacebar counter

How it works

Every Space press adds one. There is no timer, so you can count for ten seconds or two hours. Holding the key down does not add more, because the counter ignores the automatic repeat your keyboard sends. Backspace removes one if you slip, but not below your start number. On a phone, tap the big pad instead. The count, your goal and your all-time total are saved in this browser after every press, so closing the tab or reloading keeps your number. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Reading the numbers

Presses per second counts how many presses landed in the last second, so it rises and falls as you go. Peak per second is the highest that number reached this session, and best ever is your high score across visits. Session time starts at your first press and clears on reset. The all-time total keeps every press you have made here, even after a reset. Undo removes one from the total as well as from the count.

Typical speeds and tips

Most people manage 5 to 7 presses a second with one thumb. Fast players reach 9 to 12 by alternating both thumbs or tapping the bar with two fingers. If you want a fair speed score, use the timed spacebar clicker, since a peak over one second flatters short bursts. A key that skips or doubles presses here is worth a second look: some cheap switches chatter, and no box will tell you that.

Why presses can go missing

Browsers only send key events to the focused page. If you click into another window, open a menu or switch tabs, presses are not seen, and the note above the count turns yellow. Click the page to carry on. Some keyboards also limit how many keys register at once, which can drop presses when you mash several keys together.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does this spacebar counter have a time limit?

No. It keeps counting until you reset it. Session time is a clock that starts on your first press and shows how long this run has lasted. It does not stop the count.

Does holding Space add extra presses?

No. A hold counts as one press. The counter ignores the automatic repeat your keyboard sends while the key stays down. Lift the key and press again for the next one. Backspace removes one press, and it will not take the count below your start number. Space does not scroll the page while you are here.

Will my count still be there if I reload?

Yes. The count, start number, goal, all-time total and best presses per second are saved in this browser after each change. Reloading or closing the tab brings them back. Session time and this visit's peak start over. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Why did presses stop registering?

The page only receives keys while its window is focused. Click another app, open a menu or switch tabs and Space is ignored. The note above the count turns yellow. Click the page and press Space again.

What do presses per second, peak and best ever mean?

Presses per second is how many presses landed in the last second. It rises and falls as you go. Peak per second is the highest that number reached since you opened the page or last reset. Best ever is the highest peak saved on this browser, and reset does not clear it.

What does reset change?

Reset puts the count back to your start number, or to zero if you have not set one. It clears session time, the presses-per-second window and the peak for this run. It asks you to confirm first. If you do nothing, that question goes away after five seconds. The all-time total, best ever and goal stay as they are.

Can I count on a phone?

Yes. Tap the large pad. Each tap adds one. There is no timer. The count is saved in that browser, the same way it is on a computer. For a timed score, use the spacebar clicker. This page is the one with no cutoff.
