Solid Color Screens

Turn your screen into a solid white, black, red, green, blue or any custom colour, full screen. Use it to spot dead pixels, light your face on a video call, clean the panel or make a green screen backdrop.

Pick a colour

Click or tap a tile to fill the screen. Then use ← → (or swipe) to change colour, ↑ ↓ (or swipe up and down) to dim, and Esc or the X button to exit.

Settings

100%

A browser cannot touch your backlight. This darkens the colour itself, so for real dimming lower the device brightness too.

Handy as a nightlight. Where the browser allows it, the page also asks the screen not to sleep.

What a solid colour screen is good for

Dead pixels and backlight bleed

Cycle through white, black, red, green and blue with the arrow keys. A dead pixel stays black on every colour, a stuck pixel stays lit in one colour, and bleed shows as bright patches near the edges on black. Check bleed in a dark room with brightness at 100%. For a guided check, use the dead pixel test or the screen bleeding test.

Checking a TV or monitor's uniformity

Grey at 50% is the most revealing colour. Look for darker corners, vertical bands or a dirty screen effect when panning. Some variation is normal on LCDs; obvious blotches on a new panel are worth a return. It is a quick way to see whether that “perfect uniformity” claim on the box holds up.

Cleaning the screen

Black shows dust and lint, because each speck catches room light. White shows smudges and fingerprints. Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth first, then a lightly damp one, and switch colours to check both.

Green screen backdrop

The Green screen tile is #00b140, the chroma key green used in studios. A tablet or monitor behind a small object makes a clean backdrop for product photos. Turn off auto brightness, avoid reflections, and keep the subject a little in front so it does not pick up a green cast.

Using your screen as a light

Video calls and makeup

Open Warm white on a second monitor or tablet placed just above eye level and slightly to one side. It softens shadows and looks more natural than pure white, which can make skin look blue. Use the brightness slider to stop it glaring off glasses.

Bedside nightlight

Red or orange at 10 to 20% brightness is the gentlest on night vision. Set the timer so the screen hands back control when you fall asleep. Phones may still lock on their own if the browser does not support keeping the screen awake.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I leave the full screen colour?

Press Esc, or press the X in the top corner. The X stays visible and tappable after the hint fades, including on a phone with no Esc key. Arrow keys, Space, swipes, and a click on the colour change the colour or the brightness. Only Esc and the X close the screen.

How do I set a custom colour?

Type a hex code or use the colour picker. Three-digit and six-digit hex both work, so #fff and #ffffff are the same white. Any other text is rejected, and the page keeps the last valid colour instead of filling the screen with a broken value. Open full screen shows that colour. Copy link builds a URL that opens it again.

Does this work on a phone?

Tap a colour to fill the browser window. iPhone Safari and some other mobile browsers block the Fullscreen API, so the address bar may stay visible. Turn the phone sideways, or scroll once before you start, to hide more of the browser chrome. Swipe left or right to change colour, and swipe up or down to change brightness. Tap the X to leave. A phone may still lock if the browser will not keep the screen awake.

Which keys change the colour?

While a colour is showing, Left and Right move through the tiles, including your custom colour. Page Up and Page Down do the same. Space moves to the next colour. Up and Down change brightness by 5%. Esc closes the screen.

Why does the colour look darker than the hex code?

The brightness slider mixes black into the colour. A browser cannot change the panel backlight, so 100% is the hex you picked and anything lower is a darker shade of it. Lower the device brightness as well when you want a real dimmer. The slider and the timer are saved on this device.

Can I use the page as a green screen or a night light?

The Green screen tile is #00b140. A tablet or monitor behind a small object can stand in for a backdrop if you turn off auto brightness and keep the subject a little in front of the panel. For a night light, open red or orange, drop the brightness, and set the timer so the colour screen closes on its own.
